Founded on the principles of hard work and the highest quality service, The Okey Law Firm is committed to helping and protecting injured people and their families. With a unique combination of history, experience, and care, The Okey Law Firm brings dedication and commitment to every client.
The Okey family has been involved in law in Ohio since the state was founded in 1803, when Levin Okey became the first judge of Monroe County. With the support of his family, he helped to build a foundation of justice on the Ohio frontier. In fact, the first county court was located in Levin's house.
Levin inspired his grandson, John Waterman Okey, to become a Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court from 1877 to 1885. Justice Okey possessed an uncanny memory and was reputed to be able to recall every legal case published in the entire 57 volumes of the Ohio Reports.
From this legacy of law emerged the great-great-great-grandson of Levin Okey, Gene Okey, who founded The Okey Law Firm in 1962. To realize his dream of establishing a private law practice, Gene sold nearly all of his possessions, rented office space, set up a card table, and went to work. While the initial risks were great, the rewards, too, have been great – especially in his ability to truly help those who seek his counsel.
Later joining the firm were Gene’s two sons and a talented team of attorneys. With hard work and a relentless commitment to its clients, The Okey Law Firm was transformed from a small local office into a nationally recognized and respected law firm.
Their legal expertise can be found in landmark cases throughout the decades: the $2.2 million verdict in Leichtamer v. American Motors Corp., the famous Jeep rollover accident; Munson v. Cessna Aircraft Co., where the firm obtained a substantial settlement on behalf of the family of New York Yankees baseball great Thurman Munson; the record jury verdict of more than $3 million in Betz v. Stark County Emergency Physicians, Inc.,; and the $5 million verdict for the family of a refuse worker in Hart v. National Union Fire Insurance Co.
Our firm is proud to resolve complex legal challenges for our clients, including medical malpractice, automobile collisions, wrongful death, insurance, business and professional disputes, aviation accidents, defective products, pharmaceutical litigation, nursing home abuse, workplace and industrial accidents, and commercial and retail accidents.
